Week 12 Inspiration Board

 

Almost everything a draw inspiration from is in this collage - colour, texture, nature, words, other people

 

I have added wood , fabric, lace, stamping, shells, butterflies, flowers, greenery, paint, butterflies, birds, words and text along with a magazine cut out of a lady representing the people I draw inspiration from

A little late with this one had a busy week and very little play time. My background was created with Distress Sprays I then did my writing in a circle using Staedler pens. The pens were stamped using Adirondack and the circles using a bottle top and Black soot Distress Ink

Altered Mirror

 

 

Bought this mirror at Asda for £10

 

 

And this is what I did with it

 

 

Its all done with drift wood we picked up whilst on holiday last year I filled some of the little spaces with shells and moss

 

This is what I mad with some of the left over pieces

 

 

Delighted with both pieces and looking forward to collecting some more

Layered Butterfly

Another piece that I am really pleased with the outcome

 

I started with a shaped wooden board and drilled holes in the top

 

I then covered it with 2 coats of Gesso and added some texture paste - some through the Tim Holtz Wild Flower layering stencil and some just here and there

 

I sorted out some junk from my box and added to the board with thick texture paste

 

 

 

 

I then gave the whole piece 2 coats of Gesso

 

I started then with the Tim Holtz Distress spray I chose to use mowed Lawn and gave it 2 coats drying in between I then highlighted the flowers and some of the configuration with Gilding Wax

 

 

I then Die cut and embossed 2 butterflies using the Tim Holtz Layered Butterfly die and embossing folder - I did one in cream and one in black

 

I inked the cream butterfly using Distress Inks - Old Paper, Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge using an ink blending  tool - I dried with my heat gun then added a little Salty Ocean Distress Ink to the raised areas. I again dried with heat gun and then added some embossing ink to the raised areas and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

 

I layered both butterflies together and added a pen nib which I had inked with Honeycomb Alcohol Ink

Journal 52

 

I'm not really in to colouring but that was the challenge this week on Journal 52 so here it is !!!!

Things with wings

 

I just love this page it wasn't what I planned but turned out great

 

I started by covering the page with Ivory Acrylic and then adding some torn mop up pages to the top left I then dry brushed these with gesso

 

I did some background stamping using Adirondack.

 

I then sprayed the whole page with Distress spray - Peacock Feathers

 

 

I added my Tim Holtz birds in flight which I had die cut from inked music paper using my new die and Vagabond

 

I added some Chit Chat words and outlined them

I created this page with these challenges in mind

 

Lots of colours and wings going on as well as the black background so I think it fits nicely into the challenges

Happy Birthday AVJ

A Vintage Journey is celebrating their first birthday with lots going on - the challenge is now changing to a monthly one - the first Friday of the month - so more time to gather your supplies and make your project - the theme for this challenge is "Tim Style" just the same as the very first challenge. There are some wonderful prizes on offer including items from Tim and Mario - a £20 voucher from Country View Crafts donations from Susan Anne, Chris and of course Brenda- pop over to the site and take a look - the projects are sure to inspire you to give it a go - all you have to do is use Tim Holtz products or Techniques and link your piece to your blog

For this special challenge I have used one of Tims Alteration Clocks

 

This is how it finished

And this is how I did it

I took the back off and glass out and then covered it with 2 coats of gesso - dried and then added some texture paste here and there before adding Distress Spray Peacock Feathers

 

And then adding Distress Spray Mustard Seed

 

I love the way the colours have blended and mixed to make a gorgeous green colour - the texture shows up well too

 

I then worked on the back of the clock - I measured and cut a circle from a TH Paper Stack, distressed it with my tool and inked with Old Paper Distress Ink

 

I then added a Die Cut Clock Face and a Cog which I had inked with the same colours as the case





 

I fussy cut the photo from the Found Relative pack, coloured her dress with Distress Markers and added a ribbon too her hair

 

I added some moss and a couple of small flowers out of my stash. Finished off the back with 2 Big Chat words which had been inked

 

At this stage a forgot to take photos' I was so eager to carry on :)

 

I put the clock back together and then worked on the outside

 

I had just received one of the new Thinlets Dies from Country View Crafts so just had to use that - I cut it from patterned paper then added Distress Spray to it

 

 

 

I die cut a butterfly in cardboard and patterned paper - inked them the glued them to the bell and added some Perfect Pearls for the body

 

I Die cut a Flower and inked and added that - finished off with some ribbon and charms

 

I absolutely love how it turned out and hope that A Vintage Journey has as good a year as last year

Art Journey

Over at Art  Journey this month the challenge is to use colour except  black

 

This is what I ended up with

 

I covered page with Gesso and wrote into it with the end of my brush - I used Brusho to add colour.

 

 

I put some torn strips of patterned paper around the edges and then dry brushed them with Gesso

 

 

I added some strips of Tissue Tape and then again dry brushed with Gesso

 

 

I Die cut the tree and inked it and then added the bird which I had fussy cut out of some scrap fabric

 

 

The Butterfly was Die Cur inked and added via a Pen Nib and glue

 

 

I added some colour into the words that I had etched into the Gesso

 

Finished off with background stamping using Olive Adirondack Ink

ATC's

Its ages and ages since I did atc's but I really enjoyed doing these for the Mixed Media Mojo Challenge I used bits and pieces out of my scrap box, some ideology pieces and things I had lying around

Artistic Restraint

Over at Journal 52 we were challenged to use just 1 colour plus Black and White and just one shape for the background

 

I chose to use Yellow along with Black and White and a Hexagon shape

 

 

I stamped the hexagon with yellow first and then mixed some black and white in and stamped again moving to the left and down a bit

 

I quite like the way it turned out I then did my embellishments and wording  using the same colours

 

It just goes to show what you can achieve with limited supplies

 

Journal 52 - Artistic Restraint

Altered Soap Powder Box

 

I started with an empty Soap Powder box and added some scraps of different papers - book pages, music, etc etc

 

I added my first coat of colour using Tim Holtz Distress Spray - I then added some texture paste through a stencil and some white Gesso here and there.

 

When dry I Antique Bronze Distress Stain

 

I then got out my "Junk/treasures" box

 

 

I chose some pieces and Die Cut some more pieces out of saved painted/stamped leftovers

 

I added some of the pieces along with some Ideology pieces. I inked some ribbon to make the bow and added some seed beads for the butterfly body

 

I made a closure using two hitch fasteners and some thin elastic

 

I added some circles using a spare top and Black Gesso

I really like the way it turned out and plan on keeping ribbons in it

Oodles of Doodles

Well this was a challenge with a difference That's Crafty this time round has the theme "Oodles of Doodles"  this is what I came up with. - I love the background done with Brusho's and had fun with the doodles. There is a £20 voucher for some lucky winner to spend in the That's Crafty store

Special Numbers

Over at A Vintage Journey you are challenged this time to use the theme "Special Numbers"

Using Tim Holtz products or Techniques you can make anything you wish so long as you use the theme. I'm not sure why the number 2 is significant to me but it always seems to pop up

The challenge is sponsored by Country View Crafts who so generously support the challenge each time

This is the piece I created

 

 

I painted a Tando Frame with Broken China Distress Paint and when dry added some Distress Crackle Paint - when dry in inked with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink

 

Using Tim's techniques I started preparing my pieces to go on to the frame I did the number 2 by using the Multi Medium Collage technique from Tim's first Compendium of Curiosities

 

I used the Rusted Grunge Technique from the same book for the Grunge Board Key and Lock

 

I used one of Tim's layering stencils and Texture Paste on the corner of the frame again when dry inking with Rusty Hinge DI and added a Word Band and Ideology  key which I had inked over with Distress Stain

 

I added Kraft Resist to the backing board and inked with Rusty Hinge - I love the way the numbers resist the ink

 

I then did some stamping on to card stock  using Tim's Curious Possibility stamp set and Archival Ink- fussy cut distressed and inked.

 

Added them to the backboard along with some pieces from the Ephemera pack

 

I attached the frame to the board with Glossy Accents and finished off by adding some Remnant Rubs

I really enjoyed doing this piece and I certainly used lots of Tim's products and techniques

Aromatherapy

Journal 52 has given us the theme "Aromatherapy" this week this is how I created mine

 

 

I created a digi collage and then printed out on sticky back canvas which I frayed and outlined before attaching it to my page.

 

I stamped the Lavender Sheaths (Inkadinkado) with Shaded Lilac Distress Ink

 

The words were computer generated, mounted on cardstock added to card and shaded with Shaded Lilac Distress Pen

Alphabet Soup

 

 

I started my background with white Gesso - I then sprinkled on various colours of Brusho-sprayed with water and then moved the page around to let it run - I dried with heat gun

 

I then cut and added some old book pages to create a frame and inked with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain

 

I did lots of background stamping using Bo Bunny stamps and Victorian Velvet Distress Inks

 

I continued with the back ground using foam stamps and Grey Gesso

 

I added Alpha letters by adding Gesso through a stencil

 

I finished by adding the little girls which I had cut from some packaging and some wording and then outlined them all with Charcoal

This is my entry for the Artist Trading Post Challenge where the theme is "Alphabet Soup"

Curly lines

 

I used Cadmium Yellow and Lime Green paints for the background I moved them around and let them run and flicked paint here and there

 

I added some texture paste through text stencil and put some in the top corner and pressed stencil into and left themto dry - when dry I added spiced Marmalade Distress Stain

 

I added some builders tape and a piece of lace to add texture and give my girl something to stand on. The girl was pieced with magazine cut outs and scraps.

 

I added a piece of textured card from another project and put a couple of remnant rubs on it

 

I did some background stamping using Russet Adirondack Ink

 

I stamped quote on to cardstock - inked and added

 

To finish off I did some shadowing with Charcoal and added another quote this time a rub on

 

A couple of close ups so that you can see the detail

 

 

This is my entry for the Art Journey Challenge where the theme this month is "Curly Lines"

 

Intuitive Painting

 

 

I really enjoyed doing this page I didn't think about it much at all - just went ahead with my paints

 

I used Napthol Crimson

 

Yellow Orange

 

Quinacridone Marenta

 

The flowers, dots and lettering were done with Posca Pen

Love

 

 

 

I started my background with Barn Door Distress Stains and water. When it was dry I did some background stamping with Russet Archival Inks and inked through stencil using the same ink and stencilling brush

 

 

 

 

I stamped the wording on cardstock inked and mounted on old music paper

 

I inked my tag with Distress Ink - Inked the couple (Andy Skinner Stencil) masked them and then did the background stamping before adding the "Love" brad - some chit chat words and some string - I added the tag to my page with Glossy Accents. I drew hearts on some previously painted and left over card stock and added them with foam pads

 

 

 

I added some circles using bottle tops and white Gesso

 

I cut the corner pieces from some card left over from another project. Added the flower with a muse token and brad and attached to page with glossy accents

Vintage Journey - Tic Tac Toe

 

 

I really love the technique that Tim used on the February tag so I used the same technique on my canvas.

 

I started by cutting pieces of paper and ephemera and attaching them to the canvas with Mod Podge -I added Tissue tape to any spaces I then added some Distress Stains - Picket Fence and Tea Dye

 

I then sealed it and added Distress Markers to the joints

 

I decided what collage pieces to use and attached them with glossy accents

 

Added some more shadowing with charcoal and seed beads

 

Finished by adding inked Chit Chat words
